Abstract

This article examines the specifics of organizing laboratory work in a high school astronomy course using modern astronomical equipment and specialized software. It highlights the importance of hands-on activities in helping students develop subject-specific competencies, research skills, the ability to analyze observational data, and an understanding of astronomical phenomena.

A set of laboratory experiments is proposed, covering the determination of the height of mountains on the Moon based on shadow length, the study of the motion of Jupiter’s Galilean moons, as well as the observation of sunspot shifts and the determination of the Wolf number.

The possibilities for using and implementing a Newtonian telescope with a 150-mm objective lens diameter and a 750-mm focal length, a ZWO ASI178MC astronomical camera, and the ASI Studio and Stellarium software for teaching astronomy in school are described. The main stages of carrying out the proposed work are identified: conducting or simulating observations, acquiring and processing astronomical images, performing measurements and calculations, analyzing errors, and drawing conclusions.

It is shown that combining real observations with digital tools stimulates students’ cognitive activity and brings the learning process closer to real astronomical research. The proposed laboratory exercises can be used in the study of astronomy in general secondary education institutions and in extracurricular research activities.
