Author Guidelines

1. General Information

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically via the journal’s online submission system:

https://journals.pnu.edu.ua/index.php/hal_swc/about/submissions

The edition publishes original scientific research articles and materials in the history, archeology, ethnography, and local history of Halych and the historical Halych land.

The scientific works collection accepts manuscripts in Ukrainian.

Previously unpublished scientific articles, documents and monuments, bibliographical and source reviews, reviews of new publications, and reports on scientific events are accepted for publication.

2. Manuscript Structure (IMRaD)

  • UDC – in the top right line, after the name of the author(s);
  • complete name of the author (authors) – in the line on the left, in bold;
  • affiliations (without abbreviations);
  • ORCID (orcid.org);
  • index DOI (assigned by the editors);
  • title – across the line – centered, bold, capital letters;
  • abstract in Ukrainian (font size – 12, line spacing – 1.0), which should be submitted one line after the title of the article (1–1.5 thousand characters with gaps), and should contain information about the originality of the research, the purpose and objectives of the research; methodology (methods, scientific approaches); main results of the research; prospects for further studies; practical significance of the achieved results, impact on society, politics;
  • key words (6-8 words) – on a separate line after the abstrakt (“Key words” should be highlighted in italics and bold);
  • the main text of the article should contain:

- a general statement of the problem and its connection with important scientific or practical tasks;

- an analysis of recent research and publications in which the solution to the problem was initiated and on which the author relies;

- highlighting previously unresolved parts of the general problem to which the article is devoted;

- formulation of the objectives of the article (statement of the task);

- a presentation of the main research material with a full justification of the scientific results obtained;

- conclusions and prospects for further exploration;

- acknowledgements (if necessary).

  • References – after the key words in English (the title of the REFERENCES section should be in capital letters in bold) – list of the used literature and published sources ALPHABETICALLY in Latin script (titles of publications written in Cyrillic should be transliterated, in Latin - duplicated), Chicago/Turabian Manual of Style. Sources should be listed in the References list only once, regardless of the number of citations in the article (for details, see Samples of Sources, Literature and References). There is no numbering of positions in References, all positions are presented in alphabetical order. If a position occupies more than one line, each subsequent line must be indented by one tab character. Online transliteration from Ukrainian to English in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine since January 27, 2010 No. 55 “On the Systematization of Transliteration of the Ukrainian Alphabet into the Latin Alphabet” (current). (http://ukrlit.org/transliteratsiia).
  • At the end of the article, you should send a reference about the author.

Recommended length: 20–50 thousand characters (with gaps).

3. Formatting Requirements

The article is submitted in electronic form (main text: font – Times New Roman, size – 14, line spacing – 1.5; citation: font – Times New Roman, size – 12, line spacing – 1.0; abstrakts and References: font – Times New Roman, size – 12, line spacing – 1.0). The main text should be formatted in width and without word breaks.

Page parameters: A4 format, all margins – 2 cm, paragraph – 1.0 cm.

Final professional layout is carried out by the editorial office after acceptance of the article.

Each abbreviation must be entered in the text in parentheses after the first mention of the corresponding full phrase and only then can it be used.

The names of researchers should be given in full in Ukrainian for the first time. For example: Paul Robert Magosci, Andreas Kappeler, Ryszard Tomczyk, etc.

Distinguish between a dash (–) and a hyphen (-). A hyphen is a sign that connects parts of compound words and is not separated by gaps from words. A dash is a punctuation mark used to indicate direct speech and pauses. Dashes in text must be separated by spaces on both sides.

The apostrophe should look like this – ’ .

Years that do not coincide with the calendar year should be indicated with a slash (1994/1995 academic year; 2008/2009 fiscal year).

Quotations should be presented only in quotation marks – « ». If there is a quotation within a quotation, then use double quotation marks «“…”».

To separate with a non-breaking space (press Ctrl+Shift+Space):

  • signs and letters to designate volumes, parts, paragraphs, items, numbers, pages, percentages, degrees, etc. from the next digit (§ 1; Vol. 1; P. 5–6; 14 %; No. 4);
  • generally accepted designations of units of measurement from the previous digit (16 km; 15 UAH; 6 thousand);
  • initials and surname (V. Antonovych);
  • abbreviations after lists (etc., etc.);
  • before geographical names (village Krylos, city of Ivano-Frankivsk, river Prut).

Abbreviations should be printed through a non-breaking hyphen (simultaneously pressing the Ctrl+Shift+Hyphen keys). Time and numerical intervals should be formatted through a middle dash without spaces (May–June; 1870–1910, 7–8).

The author's comments should be presented in parentheses (in regular font), after the middle dash - the author's initials (in italics), for example: (First World War - O. E.).

Footnotes (explanations, comments, clarifications, "lyrical digressions") should be formatted using links automatically at the bottom of the corresponding page (dialog box). Size - 12.

Requirements for the design of bibliographical references

All references (presented in accordance with the scientific style of DSTU 8302:2015) are paginated, numbering is continuous (footnotes are at the bottom of the page; number format is "1, 2, 3,..."; numbered lists are to be continued). The footnote sign should be placed before the punctuation mark (colon, semicolon, comma, period), not after it.

Bibliographic references should be provided in the original language in the following order:

  • the surname and initials of the author(s) – in bold, with a continuous space between the initials, as well as between the initials and the surname;
  • title;
  • information about the responsible persons (compiler, compiler, responsible editor, etc.), after the slash; if there are several such persons, put a colon before the surnames;
  • information about the edition (for example: 11th ed., supplemented and revised);
  • source data (city (in full!), publisher, year of publication);
  • information about the series (journal number, issue, volume);
  • the pages to which the reference is made or the total number of pages (if the reference is to the entire document).

Blocks of bibliographic references should be separated by a period.

If the reference to one source occurs in the text consecutively on one page, then, in the case of Cyrillic text, you should use "Там само", and, in the case of Latin, "Ibid." + page number. Each subsequent reference to the already mentioned source is used in an abbreviated version (Author's last name, First words from the publication title).

Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of bibliographic data.
