Regional media: the specificity of the conceptual – categorical apparatus

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of categorical apparatus of regional media. Approaches to  understanding the concepts of "mass media", "mass communication", "media" are considered. It is noted that with the addition of prefixes "multi" or "mass" the term "media" acquires a completely different meaning. It is revealed that the concept of "regional media" is characterizes by such features as attachment to a certain region, is mainly distinguished by the administrative-territorial way; the editors of which are located in the region that is the focus of this media; are oriented primarily to the local consumer of information and, accordingly, these publications are aimed primarily at the production of information about the region. However, the first two indicators in today's virtual environment do not play a decisive role. The most important condition is the content that unites the inhabitants of a certain region. The study also identifies a group of "local" and "hyperlocal" media.
