Abstract

The article deals with the consideration of the problem of Ukrainian-Polish borders in the Polish emigre journal «Kultura» edited by Jerzy Giedroyc. There are 4 ways of solving the issue proposed by East European emigration. At the same time, we are considering two parallel concepts regarding the UkrainianPolish border on the pages of «Kultura» in the 1950's. There were the federative concept and the concept of the inviolability of borders. The evolution of the journal’s position (from the principle of federalism to the principle of the inviolability of borders) is traced. The emphasis is made on maintaining the status quo in the borders question for bilateral reconciliation. Jozef Majewski and Juliusz Mieroshewski made a great contribution to the development of that concept; Bohdan Osadchuk highlighted its importance in his publications. The position of inviolability of the borders was established in the public opinion of emigration in the late 1970's, what happened due to the factor of time. The coming to power of the democratic authorities allowed to realize the concept in the policy of independent Ukraine and Poland.
