This paper reveals the emphasis on rethinking the rationalist concept of the relation of the individual to the surrounding reality and to himself, the ideas about the meaning, goal and purpose of human activity and cognition. It was found that dasein (human being) is able not only to be interested in being, but also to take care of yourself as your being, the meaning of your being. Man is «here» (da), but it also constitutes what is here. This reveals its double nature. The term «being» is used not in the sense of the static word, but – verb form, the adjectival element of the verb «to be». For man, this means immersing in the process of experiencing its existence, finding answers to the fundamental questions of being, approving life choices, implementing their decisions, taking responsibility, etc.
It reveals the relationship of the individual to his life context (the world). The understanding of man as being-in-the-world is based on the study of the changes that have taken place in people’s lives, the explanation of their underlying causes and the development of a certain attitude towards them. Existential psychologists help individuals to understand their lives, ways of building it, hiding in it the paradoxes and dilemmas, as well as finding ways to create a meaningful future.
Understanding human life becomes possible due to the ability to analyze its interaction with universal existential factors: the feeling of being, freedom and responsibility, the end of life (or death), anxiety, guilt, time, meaning and absurdity. The feeling of being (Dasein) is the inner awareness of a man of his unique being, which helps him to use his potential, taking into account the correspondence between external experience and the inner nature. This ability of the individual is much more important than other types of sensitivity (sight, hearing, sense of smell, touch and taste). Thus, existential psychotherapy is directed not so far on the change of personality, but on a deeper and broader understanding of her life.
It was found that that existential thinking was born a long time ago, it can be found in many religious and philosophical systems. Psychology as a science can not directly examine being or existence, but for a scientist it is possible to study mental processes within the framework of existential subjects. Such intentions, maybe, will have more success if they are accomplish not in isolation, but through communication with literary and artistic activities.
