Mental Health Professionals in Great Britain

Abstract

The aim of the article is to analyze the experience of education issues and legal framework for mental health professionals in Great Britain. Types of mental health practitioners and specialization of them are described (Art psychotherapist, Art therapist, Dramatherapist, Music therapist, Registered psychologist, Clinical psychologist, Counselling psychologist, Educational psychologist, Forensic psychologist, Health psychologist, Occupational psychologist, Sport and exercise psychologist). The regulation of theirs work and education by law and professional associations are analyzed. Such laws, acts and strategy papers are described: Health Professions Order 2001, Mental Health (Patients in the Community) Act 1995, Mental Health (Scotland) Act 2015, Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010, Mental Health Act 2007, Nursing and Midwifery Order 2001, No Health Without Mental Health: A Cross-Government Mental Health Outcomes Strategy for People of All Ages, Preventing suicide in England: A cross-government outcomes strategy to save lives, Standard Occupational Classification 2010, The Mental Health (Primary Care Referrals and Eligibility to Conduct Primary Mental Health Assessments) (Wales) Regulations 2012. Summarized that Great Britain’s strongly move toward the mental healthcare system reformation was connected with scientific and economical researches, high confidence to non-governmental professional societies (British Psychological Society, Association of Educational Psychologists, British Association of Art Therapists, British Association of Dramatherapists, British Association for Music Therapy) and to universities. Also very important role belong to internal system of quality control and commitment of these societies to educational and professional honesty.
