The article examines the potential of fairy tales generated by AI for the development of communicative competence of children of preschool and primary school age. New possibilities of personalized and individualized education and upbringing of children, integration of modern technologies in the educational process are highlighted.
The research was carried out in April−August 2024 using a complex of methods: formal and structural analysis of 12 Ukrainian folk tales (Ivasyk-Telesyk, Koza-dereza, Kolobok, Kotygoroshko, Kryvenka kachechka, etc.); secondary analysis of sources devoted to the psychological aspects of the fairy tale; an expert survey on the use of AI to create children's fairy tales; experiment using AI generators (Storytime AI, Kazka.fun, etc.).
Currently, there are already AI models suitable for creating fairy tales: text (Kazka.fun, ChatGPT, Gemini); images (Microsoft Designer, Copilot); audio (AudioGen, Soundraw, Loudly); video (Canva, InVideo).
A typology of AI fairy tales is proposed: by creator (tales based on children's ideas; tales based on adults' ideas); by format (text, audio, video, multimedia); according to the plot (tales about animals, magical tales, social and household tales, etc.); by language (native language, foreign language, several languages); by interactivity (non-interactive, interactive).
To determine the necessary features of the poetics of AI fairy tales, 12 folk tales were taken as a sample. The typical features of a fairy tale are defined: a positive, coherent story; a simple structure with a beginning, middle and end; heroes emotionally close to the child; contains a moral lesson, teaches justice, teaches and educates in a light form; speaks partly about negativity and fear; has a rich and vivid language; is visual, its scenes are easy to imagine and visualize.
AI fairy tales are a tool for forming children's communication skills. The research is a contribution to understanding the potential of AI technology. Further research is needed to investigate the long-term effects of AI-generated fairy tales on children's development.
