Abstract

The article is devoted to an attempt to localize the chronicle outline of «Salts» against the background of a broader analysis and attempts to identify individual geographical names of the Rus-Hungarian border associated with the extraction, storage, transportation and trade of salt. The major part of the article is devoted to the story dated 1255, which is connected with the short stay of the representative of the Chernihiv Olhovid dynasty – Iziaslav Volodymyrovych in Halych, his confrontation with the Romanids and the possibilities of communication with the elites of the neighboring Hungarian Kingdom. The author assumes that the «Salts» noted in this context do not necessarily have to be identified with a certain fortified settlement, but rather refer in a broader sense to the area of production of this vital mineral.
