In the article the author investigates the reasons for the invention and subsequent representation of the image of «Danylo Halytskyi» in the historical narratives of the Galician Russophiles of the second half of the 19th century. This study is not the biography of the ruler, but the story of his «remembering». Traced the transformation of the use of the image of King Danylo and his appropriation of the Galician land. Particular emphasis is placed on the understanding of the stable cliche of «Prince Danylo Halytskyi» as a local Western Ukrainian ruler and his introduction into the public consciousness system of images of the past.
