The article explores the scientific legacy of Lviv historian, medievalist, and genealogist, Professor Leontii Viktorovych Voitovych (16.05.1951 – 07.02.2023). First and foremost, the emphasis is placed on the works of the scholar related to the history of Halych, the Halych Principality, and the Halych-Volyn Principality. The aim of the article is to examine the contribution of scientific research to the development of modern Ukrainian historiography. Professor L. Voytovych addressed a diverse range of issues in his works, including international relations (with neighboring regions), genealogical connections of representatives of Galician dynasties with the Rurik dynasty (Rostislavovids and Romanids) and contemporary ruling dynasties of Central-Eastern Europe and Byzantium, historical-genealogical portraits of significant representatives of Galician dynasties, economy and trade, military affairs and leisure, and the interpretation of contemporary archaeological findings. In the scientist’s oeuvre, there are also scientific-popular publications aimed at a wider audience to promote these issues and medieval Ukrainian history as a whole. The review of the scientist’s works allows not only to assess the state of research on certain issues but also to understand the prospects for further research, setting new research tasks.
