The article reveals the relevance of forming information and digital competence of students in general secondary education institutions in the context of educational digitalization and the implementation of a competence-based approach. The essence and structure of information and digital competence are analyzed, as well as regulatory requirements for its development in accordance with national educational standards and the concept of the New Ukrainian School. Special attention is paid to STREAM education as an interdisciplinary pedagogical approach that integrates science, technology, engineering, arts, reading, and writing with mathematics and creates conditions for the holistic development of students’ digital skills. The pedagogical potential of the STREAM approach in developing information literacy, critical thinking, digital communication, and safe behavior in the digital environment is substantiated. The article emphasizes the expediency of combining digital and traditional forms of learning to enhance the effectiveness of the educational process while maintaining its humanistic orientation.
