 The article analyzes the competence approach as a factor in the professional development of specialists in the system of higher medical education, summarizes information on key definitions of higher medical education, clarifies the essence of "competence", "competence", "competence approach", which involves improving professional and pedagogical qualification of teachers and preparation of students of medical institutions for professional activity.
