IVAN FRANKO IN LEONID FRIZMAN’S CONCEPT

Aim. The article is devoted to the analysis of the outstanding Ukrainian scientist L. Frizman’s (1935–2018) conceptual approaches to the work and personality of I. Franko in L. Frizman’s monograph «Ivan Franko: look at the literature» (2017), which is considered in the context of modern literary criticism, including Franko studies. Research methodology. For the analysis, the synthesis of fundamental methods and principles of scientific research was used, which includes hermeneutic, comparative, typological, poetic, biographical methods in their interrelation and complementarity. The results of research. The article reveals the problem – Ivan Franko in L. Frisiman’s concept, specificity of Frisman’s discourse its meaning-making function are emphasized, allowing more opportunities for in-depth understanding of Ivan Franko critical heritage, who is conclusively presented as a writer and critic of the world scale. Scientific novelty. In the research, L. Frisman’s contribution to the scientific understanding of the specific features of I. Franko’s literary criticism through the writer’s language, the poetics of the titles of articles, epigraphs to them, the combination of criticism with journalism, genre-compositional diversity, literary means, through the organization of the (poly) dialogical situation is characterized; the concept «I. Franko is a world-class writer» is concretized. Practical value. The results of the research can be used for further study of the works by not only I. Franko, but also other writers who come up with critical articles. Scientific observations and conclusions can form the basis of lecture courses on the history of Russian, Ukrainian and foreign literature of the end of the nineteenth century – early twentieth century, the theory of literature, can be used in school teaching the history of Ukrainian literature and reflection of the literary text in other art forms.
