Abstract

Aim The article deals with the chronotopical organization of the feminine detective novels by I. Rozdobudko and D. L. Sayers. The aim of this study is to single out the similar and different features of the chronotop functioning in the British and Ukrainian feminine detective novels.

Methods The comparatively-historical and structurally-typological approaches have been used for the research. They helped to chase the specificity of the chronotopical organization of the British and Ukrainian detective novels through the similarities and differences and to find out the regularities of the genre paradigm forming in the works of different authors.

Results On the basis of the study of the chronotopical models in the novel «Escort-service» by I. Rozdobudko and in the novel «Have His Carcase» by D. L. Sayers the common and different features of the chronotopical organization of the mentioned novels are found. The artistic time is adventure-routine by both authors but there are differences in the historical time. The Ukrainian author shows the events non-chronologically. The British writer tells the events one by one but she uses achronies. The artistic space in the detective novels is open, the macrocosm and microcosms are different. It is connected with the national and individual factors.

Scientific novelty Despite the actuality of the problem of the chronotop of the literary work and the existing works by M. Bakhtin, Yu. Lotman, V. Propp and the other literary critics, the chronotop of the detective novel is analyzed only a little by J. Simons, A. Adamov, A. Wulis, L. Duchenko and Ya. Holoborodko. There isn’t any study devoted to the chronotopical models in the feminine detective novels «Escort-Service» by I. Rozdobudko and «Have His Carcase» by D. L. Sayers in the comparative aspect.

Practical significance The results of the research point to the wide range of problems in the feminine detective novel and leave much space for future studies.
