Abstract

The figures of Polish and Ukrainian writers Pola Gojawiczynska and Iryna Vilde are scarcely explored in the literary studies. The aim of this study is to present the archetype of the mother, which is one of the aspects of the comparative research of the Polish and Ukrainian writers Pola Gojawiczynska and Iryna Vilde. This research highlights the degree of expresion and vectors of interpretations of the archtype in the works «The Girls from Novolypki» and «The Richynsky Sisters». On the base of archetype research by C. G. Jung we distinguish its structural features of the depicted mothers in the novels, their outlook, methods of education and interpretation of family values, which are substantially different. The study founds that in the Polish novel archetypal image of the mother is used instead of the product of the Ukrainian writer – an archetype. Both novels often use symbols, which only reinforces the archetype or archetypal image. It affects the character creation, allowing to explore the outlook of the main heroines and their mothers, which are partly interrelated, and identify internal psychological and mental features of the female characters as possible mouthpieces of Jungian concept of the unconscious. The novelty of the article is research of the archetype of the mother in the aspect of women character creation in the novels of Pola Gojawiczyńska and Iryna Vilde that actualizes scientific problem of distinguishing between archetype and archetypal image. Results of the study can be used in research work at depth study of creativity by Pola Gojawiczyńska and Iryna Vilde.
