GOGOL’S PETERSBURG IN THE NOVEL BY M. KURAEV «THE MIRROR OF MONTACHKA»

Abstract

Aim. The article is devoted to the problem of revealing intertextual links between the prose of Mikhail Kuraev and Nikolai Gogol, in particular, between the novel «The Mirror of Montachka» and «Petersburg stories», the establishment of allusive links and figurative-style motifs between them. Methods. In the article there has been applied the system approach. The authors use the synthesis of the basic methods and principles of scientific research. The article relays on comparative, typological, intertextual and other methods. The principles and methods used in the article are interrelated and completed each other. Results. The article has consistently considered the intertextual field of the novel by M. Kuraev «The Mirror of Montachka» and established the connections between «Petersburg stories» by N. Gogol («Nevsky prospect», «The Overcoat», «The Nose», etc.). The paper shows that in «The Mirror of Montachka» Kuraev clearly and consciously focused on «Petersburg text» by Gogol in various spheres – not only at the level of style, manner, language, image system, but also at the level of artistic mythology. It is Gogol’s intertext that allows Kuraev to create an image of mystical St.-Petersburg (fantastic Leningrad), invading the real life of the characters and mediating their types, fancifully deforming and transforming reality, recreating the artistic present.
