The article offers a critical review of the new work by Bohdan Kindratiuk of Ivano-Frankivsk ‘Essays on the Musical Art of the Principality of Galicia-Volhynia’, which for the first time collects and systematises materials on the musical culture of this state formation. The music of that time is an important but little-studied historical stage that ensured the development of Ukrainian musical art after the fall of the medieval Kyivan Rus' state. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)The essays provide analysis of folk art, instrumental music culture, music in everyday life of princely courts and towns, church chants, and chiming art. The second edition summarizes new facts and shifts some of the accents as a guarantee of a more complete and truthful reconstruction of the development of multinational musical art in this area. The current mastery of its burrowing and development in the area of our region in the Middle Ages is an important guarantee of strengthening national identity, which is extremely important during the Russian-Ukrainian war.
